How Do I Get My Family on Mission?

Begin with prayer. Pray individually and as a family for guidance. Pray that God will provide daily opportunities and special projects for your family to engage in mission action and witness.

Take inventory of your environment. How many non-Christians do you know? What are the physical and spiritual needs of the people around you? How are you and your family leading others to know Jesus?

Take inventory of your family. What talents and interests do family members have? Discuss areas of ministry that family members would like to do or learn more about.

Get Ready. Prepare you hearts and minds with God’s words. Learn Scripture verses so you can share with others God’s love and salvation. Discuss missions passages such as Acts 1:8 and Matthew 28:18–20. Missions Moments has great missions learning devotionals.

Go to God. Tell Him about what you have learned about your environment, your family, and His mission. As a family, commit to serve Him.

Be Ready. Watch for opportunities to minister to others throughout the day.

Be Proactive. Create missions experiences in your community, volunteer for church or associational missions projects or trips, or participate in a preplanned missions experience such as FamilyFESTsm.

Keep A Record. Create a family journal of your missions experiences. Use this to debrief after projects and record how family members grow in their faith and service to God.
